God and the Big Bang Theory

“He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.” (Psalm 2:4)

Tuesday, November 28, 2017. Today I had the joy of joining the Lord in a good laugh as I read the headlines from Yahoo News in the United Kingdom, “The Big Bang Never Happened”. The Brazilian physicist Juliano Cesar Neves of the University of Campinas says, “I believe the Big Bang never happened.” Well, good for him for being so honest, and for refusing to embrace the religion offered by Secular Humanist, that out of nothing has come everything.

The Big Bang Theory is a theory. A theory is not a fact. This theory is of recent origin. It was formulated in 1929 when the American astronomer Edwin Hubble discovered that the universe is expanding, as galaxies move away from each other at ever-faster rates. The idea is that since the universe is expanding, or stretching, like a rubber band, there must have been an explosion, a big bang that started the process. What Hubble discovered in the 20th century, Isaiah the prophet declared in the seventh century BC, Isaiah wrote that God “stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in.” (Isa. 40:22) Stephen Hawking says that God did not make the universe. God says, “I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself.” (Isa. 44:24) Who is to be believed? Hubble? Hawking? God? I smile while secular scientists continue to challenge, and contradict one another. I say, “I believe God. I believe there is a sure Word of prophesy, the Bible, which does not change or contradict itself.”

Evolution is also a theory. It is not a fact. Evolution is a godless attempt to remove the Creator from His creation. It is a fantastic idea to declare, without proof, that non-living molecules got together to form a living cell. Such an event cannot be repeated. Evolution is not testable.

It might be argued that biblical creation is also untestable, and that is readily admitted by every thoughtful Christian. However, the larger point to remember is that the ultimate test of truth is not found in changing scientific theories, either the theory of the Big Bang, or Evolution, but in divine revelation.
