At a town hall meeting on January 4, 2016 on Staten Island, New York, Dr. Ben Carson was asked by a militant, rude, and profane LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender) activist if he believed he chose to be Gay. Dr. Ben Carson avoided an answer, but has apologized for earlier remarks saying that being Gay was a choice. Once more Dr. Carson is proving to be more of a politician than is warranted, and that is always disappointing for a Conservative. Being Gay is not a medical question, but a moral question. God does not make people homosexuals, for that would be contrary to His divine mandate. Jesus said, “Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female” (Matt. 19:4).
On the matter of homosexuality, the Scriptures are crystal clear. Homosexuality is a choice of morally depraved individuals whom God has given over to a reprobate mind. As a form of divine judgement God gives individuals over “to uncleanness through the lusts of their own heart, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves” (Rom. 1:24). The form of moral uncleanness is spoken of in terms of “vile affections”, whereby women change the natural use of their bodies “into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet (Rom. 1:26-27).
Individuals freely chose to be homosexuals, bisexuals, and transsexuals, because they do not like to be accountable to God, and so they defy Him, His moral law, nature itself, and all that is decent and holy. Some individuals, when shown grace by God, become sick of wallowing in the depths of moral depravity. They become sick and tired of being sick and tired, for Gays are not happy people, if the truth were told. There is pleasure in sin, but only for a season. Then, because it is a moral universe, the pendulum of moral rot begins to swing in a different direction.
In the first century, when the apostle Paul met individuals in the church of Corinth who had been given over to homosexuality, and other forms of human decadence, he was able to rejoice at what the gospel had done for them. With other vile sinners, homosexuals responded to the gospel of grace. They repented of their sin, and became fundamentally, and forever different by the regenerating work of the Holy Spirit. Paul was able to write of such individuals in his letter to the Corinthians.
“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Cor. 6:9-11).
The words of 1 Corinthians 6:11 are full of hope to every fornicator, idolater, adultery, homosexual, thief, drunkard, bully, and extortioner. You can be different. Paul says, “And such were some of you.” Every great saint has been a great sinner. Every sinner can become a great saint.
To the activist in the video who shamed himself before a watching world, as shown on Yahoo, the Word of the Lord comes to you personally to tell you, “God did not make you a homosexual. You were destined to move from dust to glory, and you still can. Repent of your sin. Call upon the name of the Lord and thou shalt yet be saved.” Then, as a humble Christian, go back and apologize to Dr. Ben Carson for your shameful conduct. There is mercy with the Lord, but it is based upon gospel repentance.
